Disassembly and Assembly

Disassembly
1. Clean outside of brake master cylinder thoroughly. Remove brake master cylinder filler cap. Drain all brake fluid from brake master cylinder. Always discard used brake fluid.

Snap Ring:

2. Depress primary piston and remove snap ring from retaining groove at open end of bore.

3. NOTE: If brake master cylinder is to be put into vise to aid in disassembly, mount into vise by flange only to avoid damage to bore or reservoir areas.

Remove primary and secondary piston assemblies from brake master cylinder. Tap open end of brake master cylinder on bench to remove pistons. If secondary piston does not readily come out, apply air pressure to secondary outlet port to assist removal.
4. Remove brake master cylinder reservoir.

Assembly
1. Dip replacement piston assemblies in clean Ford High Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AB or equivalent DOT 3 fluid meeting Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A for lubrication prior to assembly into cylinder. If DOT 3 is not available use DOT 4 Brake Fluid meeting Ford specification SAE-J-1704-DOT 4.
2. Install secondary piston (smaller) assembly into bore, spring end first.
3. Install primary piston assembly, spring end first.
4. Depress primary piston and install snap ring.
5. Fill and bleed brake master cylinder.
6. Install brake master cylinder filler cap on brake master cylinder reservoir and secure.
