ISSUE
A Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0325 (tailed knock sensor circuit) may appear during KOER, but further testing determines the knock sensor to be satisfactory. This may occur due to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) strategy.
ACTION
Reprogram the PCM. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Retrieve, then clear DTCs from PCM continuous memory.
2. If a DTC P0325 appears during KOER, perform normal diagnostics in accordance with the 1999 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Service Manual for DTC P0325.
3. If no problem was found after performing Step 2, no other DTCs were present, but the concern is still present, reprogram the PCM with the latest level calibration using Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS) or New Generation Star (NGS) Tester. Refer to the following PCM Reprogramming Information Chart to identify the appropriate calibration.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
