Removal1. CAUTION: Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Remove the upper intake manifold.
2. Disconnect the left-hand and right-hand spark plug wires and disconnect the bracket.
3. Remove the fuel charging wiring from the fuel injectors.
4. Remove the ignition coil assembly.
1 Disconnect the electrical connectors.
2 Remove the coil bolts.
3 Remove the ignition coil.
5. Remove the in-line connector bracket.
1 Remove the nuts.
2 Remove the bracket.
6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the rear of the right-hand valve cover.
7. Remove the wiring harness shield from the right-hand valve cover.
8. NOTE: Remove the bolts in the indicated sequence.
Remove the valve cover.
- Remove and discard the gasket.
Installation
NOTE: Install a new gasket in the valve cover and install the valve cover within six minutes of applying the sealer. Before installing the valve cover, apply a drop of sealer approximately 8 mm in diameter to the joint areas shown in the diagram.
1. Prior to installation, clean the valve cover sealing surfaces using a shop towel and Metal surface cleaner.
- Install a new gasket on the valve cover.
- Use Silicone gasket and sealant.
2. Tighten the valve cover bolts in the indicated sequence.
3. Install the wiring harness shield on the right-hand valve cover.
4. Install the wiring harness on the rear of the right-hand valve cover.
5. Install the in-line connector bracket to the right-hand valve cover.
6. NOTE: Make sure the ground cable is in place when installing the ignition coil.
Install the ignition coil.
1 Install the ignition coil.
2 Install the bolts.
3 Connect the electrical connectors.
7. Install the fuel charging wiring to the fuel injectors.
- Begin at the front of the engine and work towards the rear of the engine.
8. Connect the spark plug wires and install the bracket.
9. Install the upper intake manifold.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
10. Connect the battery ground cable.
