Left Side
Removal1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the upper intake manifold.
3. Disconnect the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) actuator.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Disconnect the IMRC cable and position the IMRC actuator to one side.
3 Remove the cable bridge.
4. Disconnect the left-hand spark plug wires and the bracket.
5. Disconnect the radiator coolant expansion tank hose and wiring harness.
- Disconnect the coolant expansion tank breather hose bracket from the stud on the left-hand valve cover.
- Disconnect the wiring harness from the left-hand valve cover.
6. NOTE: Remove the bolts in the indicated sequence.
Remove the valve cover and discard the gasket.
Installation
1. NOTE: Install a new gasket in the valve cover and install the valve cover within six minutes of applying the sealer. Before installing the valve cover, apply a drop of sealer approximately 8 mm in diameter to the joint areas shown in the diagram.
Prior to installation, clean the valve cover sealing surfaces using a shop towel and Metal surface cleaner.
Install a new gasket on the valve cover.
- Use Silicone gasket and sealant.
2. Tighten the valve cover bolts in the indicated sequence.
3. Install the radiator coolant expansion tank reservoir hose.
- Install the wiring harness onto the left-hand valve cover.
- Push the coolant expansion tank breather hose bracket onto the left-hand valve cover stud.
4. Connect spark plug wires and install the bracket.
5. Install the IMRC actuator.
1 Install cable bridge.
2 Install the IMRC actuator and install the bolts.
3 Install the IMRC cable in the clip.
6. Install the upper intake manifold.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
7. Connect the battery ground cable.
