Battery Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove the engine air cleaner.







2. Disconnect the battery cables.

WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT REPAIR IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, FIRST DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE, THEN DISCONNECT THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND PERSONAL INJURY. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.







3. Disconnect the battery clamps from the distributor plates.







4. Disconnect the starter motor solenoid electrical connector.







5. Detach the battery cables from the clips.







6. Disconnect the ground cable from the transaxle housing.







7. Detach the positive battery cable.
- Remove the cable tie.
8. Raise and support the vehicle.







9. Disconnect the starter motor electrical connectors.







10. Remove the shorting bar cover.







11. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
1 Remove the nut.
2 Remove the cable.
12. Remove the battery cables.

INSTALLATION






















1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
