Initial Inspection

1. Verify the customer concern by checking the air bag indicator in the instrument cluster. Refer to Prove Out the System.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

Visual Inspection Chart

Mechanical
- Damaged Restraint Control Module (RCM) bracket

Electrical
- Fuse(s)
- Warning harness
- Loose or corroded connector(s)
- Circuit open or shorted

3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. If the NGS Tester does not power up, refer to the New Generation STAR Tester manual.
5. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the NGS Tester responds with:
- CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70-ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, diagnose Module Communications Network system.
- NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Restraint Control Module (RCM), go to Pinpoint Test A. A: Air Bag Warning Indicator Is Illuminated Continuously
- System passed, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the Restraint Control Module (RCM).
6. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Restraint Control Module (RCM) Diagnostics Trouble Code (DTC) Priority Index. Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
