Removal and Installation




FUEL TANK

Removal

All Vehicles

Warning: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

1. Relieve the fuel pressure.

2. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining

Vehicles without returnless fuel system:

NOTE: Fuel supply line connectors are white or are identified by a white band. Fuel return line connectors are red or are identified by a red band.

3. Disconnect the red push connect fitting to the fuel tank.







4. Disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector.






All Vehicles

5. Raise and support the vehicle.

6. Disconnect the push connect fitting from the fuel filter outlet.






7. Remove the fuel tank support straps.

Caution: When lowering the fuel tank, make sure that excessive strain is not placed on vapor tubes and wiring connectors.

8. Partially lower the fuel tank.

9. Loosen the fuel vapor valve bracket screw approximately 3 turns.






10. Disconnect the filler pipe vapor tube from the top of the fuel tank.






11. Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe from the fuel tank.
- Push the retaining collar upwards.
- Compress the retaining collar tangs.
- Remove the fuel tank filler pipe.






Vehicles with returnless fuel system:

12. Disconnect the [1][2][3]fuel pump module electrical connector and the fuel pump module outlet line.






13. Disconnect the vent and purge lines from the fuel tank.






Vehicles without returnless fuel system:

14. Detach the fuel return line from the top of the fuel tank.







All Vehicles

15. Remove the fuel tank.


Installation

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
