Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
Removal1. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.
1 Remove the upper bolts.
- Remove the coolant hose bracket and the engine lifting eye, and pull out the engine oil level indicator tube.
2 Remove the coolant hose clamps
3 Remove the lower bolts.
2. CAUTION: When repairing the exhaust system or removing exhaust components, disconnect the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) at the wiring harness to prevent damage to the sensors and the harness.
Disconnect the HO2S wiring electrical connector.
3. Disconnect the Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) from the exhaust manifold.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Loosen the TWC bracket bolt and lower the TWC so the studs clear the exhaust manifold.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. CAUTION: Do not work on the aluminum engine components until the engine is cold.
Remove the exhaust manifold.
- Remove the four nuts.
- Discard the exhaust manifold gasket.
Installation
1. CAUTION: Do not use abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material; use only plastic manual scrapers. Do not scratch or gouge the aluminum sealing surfaces.
Install the exhaust manifold.
- Install a new exhaust manifold gasket.
2. Connect the TWC to the exhaust manifold.
3. Connect the HO2S electrical connector.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Tighten the TWC bracket bolt.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Install the heat shield.
- Insert the oil level indicator tube into the cylinder block and position the coolant hose bracket and the engine lifting eye in position.
1 Install in the upper bolts.
2 Install the lower bolts.
3 Install the to the coolant hose bracket.
