Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair
RemovalAll Vehicles
1. Release the parking brake.
2. Loosen the rear wheel nuts.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Disconnect the parking brake control.
5. Remove the wheel.
6. CAUTION: Support the muffler assembly with a suitable jack stand.
Disconnect the muffler inlet pipe exhaust hanger insulator.
7. Disconnect the left-hand muffler exhaust hanger insulator.
8. On SVT equipped vehicles, disconnect the right-hand rear muffler exhaust hanger insulator.
9. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust hanger insulator.
10. Remove the rear section of the exhaust system heat shield.
11. Detach the rear brake cables from the equalizer.
Vehicles with rear disc brakes
12. Detach the parking brake cable.
1 Pull back the parking brake lever.
2 Disconnect the cable from the parking brake lever.
3 Detach the cable clip.
4 Detach the cable.
Vehicles with rear drum brakes
13. Remove the rear brake shoes.
14. Detach the rear brake cable from the backing plate.
1 Depress the clip.
2 Detach the cable.
All Vehicles
15. Remove the rear brake cable frond the clips.
Installation
1. To set the preload of the parking brake control self-adjust mechanism, lift the parking brake control lever to the fully raised position.
2. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
