Passive Anti-Theft Alarm System (Pats)

1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
^ Ignition lock cylinder
^ PATS key
^ Use of a non PATS key
^ More than one PATS key on key chain

Electrical
^ Central Junction Box (CJB) fuse 12 (15 A)
^ Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse 9 (20 A)
^ PCM
^ ignition switch
^ Loose or corroded connection(s)
^ PATS transceiver

3. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu. If the NGS does not communicate with the vehicle:
^ Make sure that the program card is installed correctly
^ Check the connections to the vehicle
^ Check the ignition switch is in position II
4. If the NGS still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation STAR Tester manual.
5. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the NGS responds with:
^ CKT914, CKT915 or CKT 70 ALL ECUS NO A RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Information Bus.
^ NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for PCM, refer to Powertrain Control Module.
^ SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the PCM
6. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code Index to continue diagnostics. Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Passive Anti-Theft Alarm System (Pats)
