Conventional Instrument Cluster
1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical
^ Damaged engine oil filter
^ Damaged oil pump
^ Low engine oil level
^ Stuck oil pressure gauge needle
^ Stuck coolant temperature gauge
^ Damaged fuel tank
^ Engine coolant level
^ Damaged water thermostat
Electrical
^ Blown fuse(s):
- Central Junction Box (CJB) Fuse 13 (15 A)
- CJB Fuse 15 (10 A)
- Battery Junction Box (BJB) Fuse 8 (30 A)
^ Damaged miniature bulb(s)
^ Damaged wiring harness
^ Loose or corroded connectors
^ Damaged instrument cluster
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. Verify the following systems are working correctly:
^ Charging
^ Fuel
^ Cooling
^ Safety belt warning chime (LCM)
^ Turn signals
^ Headlamps
^ Air suspension
^ Anti-lock brake system/traction control If the system(s) is/are not working correctly, refer to the appropriate system/component.
5. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS Tester menu. If NGS Tester does not communicate with the vehicle:
^ check that the program card is correctly installed.
^ check the connections to the vehicle.
^ check the ignition switch position.
6. If NGS Tester still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation STAR Tester manual.
7. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If NGS Tester responds with:
^ CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Information Bus.
^ NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for LCM, go to Pinpoint Test A. A: No Communication With Lighting Control Module
^ SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the LCM.
8. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the LCM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. Conventional Instrument Cluster
9. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Conventional Instrument Cluster
