Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
^ Damaged or stuck message center switch
^ Damaged VSS gear

Electrical
^ Blown Central Junction Box (CJB):
- Fuse 8 (10 A)
- Fuse 15 (10 A)
^ Damaged miniature bulb(s)
^ Damaged wiring harness
^ Loose or corroded connectors
^ Damaged instrument duster
^ Message center switch

3. If an obvious fault is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. Verify that the following instrument cluster gauges are working correctly:
^ Fuel level gauge
^ Speedometer
