Removal
1. Remove the intake manifold.
2. Remove the timing chains.
3. Remove the LH exhaust manifold.





4. Disconnect the radio ignition interference capacitor and remove the engine control sensor wiring.





5. Remove the bolt and the oil level indicator tube.





6. Inspect the O-rings, replace as necessary.





7. Remove the bolts and the LH timing chain guide.





8. NOTE: It will be necessary to support the number eight bolt. Pull the bolt out far enough so it does not contact the block, then place a rubber band or a piece of tape around the bolt to support it. This will aid in the removal of the cylinder head by keeping the bolt out of the way.

Loosen the ten bolts in three one-turn passes in the sequence shown and remove the bolts.





9. Remove the LH cylinder head.





10. Remove the gasket.


Installation





1. CAUTION: Cylinder head sealing surfaces and bolt holes must be clean, dry and free of foreign material or engine damage may occur.

NOTE: Clean all sealing surfaces with Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M5B392-A.

Clean the sealing surface and the bolt holes.





2. Install a new gasket.





3. NOTE: It will be necessary to support the number eight bolt. Support the bolt in the cylinder head so it does not contact the block during installation with a rubber band or a piece of tape.

Install the LH cylinder head.





4. Install ten bolts and tighten in sequence in six stages:





^ Stage 1: Tighten to 37-43 Nm (28-31 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Tighten an additional 85-95 degrees.
^ Stage 3: Loosen the bolts a minimum of one full turn, 360 degrees.
^ Stage 4: Tighten to 37-43 Nm (28-31 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 5: Tighten an additional 85-95 degrees.
^ Stage 6: Tighten an additional 85-95 degrees.
5. Install the LH timing chain guide and tighten the bolts.





6. Install the oil level indicator tube.





7. Position the engine control sensor wiring and connect the radio ignition interference capacitor.
8. Install the LH exhaust manifold.
9. Install the intake manifold.
10. Install the timing chains.
