Removal
REMOVALCAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
1. Remove the driver side air bag module.
2. Remove the passenger side air bag module.
3. Close the glove compartment.
4. Position the speed control servo aside.
a. Disconnect the electrical connector.
b. Remove the nuts.
c. Position the speed control servo aside.
5. Disconnect the LH engine compartment in-line electrical connector.
- Release the wiring harness locators.
6. Disconnect the brake fluid sensor electrical connector.
7. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor electrical connector.
- Release the wiring harness locators.
8. Disconnect the LH engine compartment in-line electrical connectors.
9. Unseat the LH wiring harness grommet.
10. Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector.
11. Disconnect the A/C pressure cut-off switch electrical connector.
12. Disconnect the RH engine compartment in-line wiring harness connectors.
13. Disconnect the vacuum line at the intake manifold.
14. Disconnect the Electronic Air Temperature Control (EATC) variable blower motor controller electrical connector.
- Release the wiring harness locators.
15. Remove the RH front wheel and tire assembly.
16. Remove the upper front fender splash shield bolts.
17. Remove the lower front fender splash shield bolt and locator.
18. Position the front fender splash shield away from the dash panel.
19. Unlock the wiring harness guide.
20. Unseat the RH wiring harness grommet.
21. Install the RH front wheel and tire assembly.
22. Remove the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
a. Remove the pin-type retainers.
b. Release the locking tab.
c. Remove the instrument panel lower insulator.
- Disconnect the courtesy lamp.
23. Remove the LH and RH scuff plates.
24. Remove the LH and RH cowl side trim panels.
25. Disconnect the Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) module electrical connector.
a. Disconnect the ECS module electrical connector locking clip.
b. Disconnect the ECS module electrical connector.
26. Disconnect the antenna cable in-line connector.
27. Remove the RH ground bolts.
28. Disconnect the RH bulkhead electrical connectors.
a. Loosen the bolt.
b. Disconnect the RH bulkhead electrical connectors.
29. Disconnect the EATC hose from the evaporator housing.
30. Position the LH and RH door weatherstrip seals aside.
31. Feed the RH wiring harness through the dash panel.
32. Remove the center carpet insert.
a. Remove the two pin-type retainers.
b. Remove the center carpet insert.
33. Disconnect the climate control head vacuum harness connector.
34. Remove the instrument panel tunnel brace.
a. Remove the nuts.
b. Remove the bolts.
c. Remove the instrument panel tunnel brace.
35. Remove the LH instrument panel insulator.
a. Remove the pin-type retainers.
b. Remove the LH instrument panel insulator.
- Disconnect the courtesy lamp.
36. Remove the instrument panel lower steering column opening cover.
a. Remove the screws.
b. Remove the instrument panel lower steering column opening cover.
37. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
a. Remove the bolts.
b. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
38. Disconnect the parking brake release vacuum connector.
39. Disconnect the vacuum connector.
40. Position the steering column brace aside.
a. Remove the nut.
b. Position the steering column brace aside.
41. Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
a. Remove the pinch bolt.
b. Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
42. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column.
a. Disconnect the cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
b. Disconnect the cable from the steering column bracket.
43. Remove the LH ground bolt.
44. Disconnect the LH wiring harness connectors.
45. Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
- If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.
46. Remove the three instrument panel cowl top screws
47. Remove the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.
48. Remove the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.
49. Remove the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
50. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
NOTE:
- Two technicians are required to carry out this step.
- Feed the LH wiring harness through the dash panel while performing this step.
