Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair






Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the accessory drive belt.





3. Disconnect the power steering lines from the power steering pump.
1 Detach the tube retaining bracket.
2 Disconnect the power steering high-pressure tube.
^ Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
3 Disconnect the power steering pump supply hose.
4 Disconnect the Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.





4. Remove the engine cover.





5. Using the special tool, support the engine.





6. Remove the engine mount bracket.
1 Unclip the ignition wire clamp.
2 Remove the nuts.





7. Detach the coolant expansion tank.
1 Remove the retaining bolts.
2 Disconnect the electrical connector.
^ Position the tank to one side.





8. Remove the engine mount.





9. Remove the power steering pump pulley.
1 Hold the pump shaft with an Allen key.
2 Remove the bolts.





10. Disconnect the power steering pump retaining plate.
1 Remove the steering line support bracket bolt.
2 Remove the nuts.
3 Remove the lower bolts.





11. Remove the power steering pump.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the plate.
3 Remove the pump.





12. Disconnect the power steering line.

Installation





1. NOTE: If a new power steering pump is being installed, the unions that are supplied fitted to the pump should be removed and saved for future use.

Using the special tool, install a new union O-ring seal.
1 Push the new O-ring seal onto the special tool.
2 Locate the tool over the union and ease the O-ring seal onto the union.





2. Connect the power steering line.





3. Install the power steering pump.





4. Install the power steering pump pulley.





5. Install the engine mount.





6. Install the coolant expansion tank.
1 Install the bolts.
2 Connect the electrical connector.





7. Install the engine mount bracket.





8. Remove the special tool (engine support).
9. Install the engine cover.





10. Install the power steering lines to the power steering pump.
1 Install the high-pressure tube.
2 Install the power steering pump supply hose.
3 Install the tube retaining bracket.
4 Install the PSP switch electrical connector.
11. Install the accessory drive belt.
12. Connect the battery ground cable.
13. Fill the power steering system.
