Flow of Diagnosis

1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Electrical
^ Module(s)
^ Instrument cluster
^ Circuit(s)
^ Loose or corroded connector(s)
^ Data link connector (DLC)

3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. If the NGS tester still does not power up, refer to the New Generation STAR tester manual.

NOTE
^ Before running the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS Network Test, turn the ignition switch to RUN. Failure to turn the ignition switch to run will cause invalid Network Test results.
^ Make sure the battery is fully charged, or the NGS may not be able to communicate with all the modules.

5. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the NGS tester responds with:
^ SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and erase the continuous DTCs.
^ any other than SYSTEM PASSED, proceed to Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
6. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, return to the Symptom Chart which brought you here, and continue with the diagnosis.
