Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Loosen the RH front wheel nuts.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Remove the RH wheel.
^ Remove the nuts.
5. Remove the fender splash shields.
6. Remove the accessory drive belt.
7. CAUTION: Prevent the crankshaft from rotating in a counterclockwise direction during the crankshaft pulley bolt removal.
NOTE: The crankshaft pulley bolt is tightened to yield and must not be reused.
Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt and washer.
1 Use a Suitable strap wrench to hold the crankshaft pulley.
2 Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.
8. Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft pulley.
Installation
1. NOTE: The crankshaft pulley bolt is torqued to yield and must not be reused.
Prior to applying scaler, clean sealing surfaces with Metal surface cleaner or eq1valent meeting Ford specification WSE-M5B392-A to remove all residues that may interfere with the sealers ability to adhere.
2. Apply Black silicone rubber or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M46323-A6 to the front of the crankshaft on the inside diameter surface of the crankshaft pulley at the keyway.
3. NOTE: Use the washer of the new crankshaft pulley bolt for installation.
Using the special tool, install the crankshaft pulley.
4. Apply Silicone gasket and sealant or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A6 to the crankshaft pulley bolt.
5. NOTE: Use Cam Sprocket Holding/Removing Tool to prevent the crankshaft pulley from turning.
NOTE: Crankshaft pulley bolt is torqued to yield and must not be reused.
Install the crankshaft pulley bolt.
1 Install a suitable strap wrench to hold the crankshaft pulley.
2 Install the crankshaft pulley bolt in four stages:
^ Stage 1: 120 Nm
^ Stage 2: Back off the bolt one full turn.
^ Stage 3: 50 Nm
^ Stage 4: 90 degrees
6. Install the drive accessory belt.
7. Install the fender splash shields.
8. Install the RH front wheel.
9. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
Connect battery ground cable.
