Tie Rod End: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the (A) lug nuts and the (B) front wheel and tire assembly.
4. Remove and discard the (A) cotter pin from the tie rod end nut and remove the (B) nut.
5. Use (A) Tie Rod End Separator T85M-3395-A to separate the (B) front wheel knuckle from the (C) tie rod end.
6. Place alignment marks on the (A) tie rod end, the (B) tie rod end jam nut and the (C) front wheel spindle tie rod.
7. Loosen the (A) tie rod end jam nut and remove the (B) tie rod end.
INSTALLATION
1. Thread the (A) tie rod end onto the (B) front wheel spindle tie rod. Line up alignment marks.
2. Tighten the tie rod end jam nut.
3. Install the (A) tie rod end into the (B) front wheel knuckle.
4. Install the tie rod end nut and a new cotter pin.
NOTE: If necessary, tighten (never loosen) the tie rod end nut until the castellations line up with the cotter pin hole.
5. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Align the front end to specifications.
