Test Notes

Normal Operation
The air bag Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) module supports features that are not used in Escort and Tracer vehicles. The wiring harness pins used by the ECS for these features are normally left disconnected in Escort and Tracer vehicles. If the ECS detects a connection to Pin 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 16, 18, 20, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, it will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1871, B1877, B1878, B1879, B1881, B1882, B1883, B1884, B1885, B1886, B1889, B1890, B1901 or B1941 in memory and flash a Lamp Fault Code (LFC) 14, 17, 18, 25, 27, 41, 46 or 47.

Possible Causes
An unexpected feature present could be caused by:
^ wiring harness fault causing connection to a normally unused ECS pin.
^ internal ECS module fault.
