Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the engine to duplicate the condition.2. Inspect to determine if any of the following mechanical concerns apply:
- Drive belt cracking/chunking/wear.
- Drive belt noise or squeal.
- Pulley misalignment or excessive pulley runout.
3. Conditions requiring drive belt replacement are rib chunk-out, severe glazing, frayed cords or other concerns. Replace any drive belt exhibiting one of these conditions.
NOTE: Minor cracks in the V-grooved portion of the drive belt are considered normal and acceptable. If the drive belt has chunks missing from the ribs, the drive belt should be replaced. Inspect for drive belt cracking/chunking/wear.
4. If the concerns remain after inspection, determine the symptoms and go to the Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
