Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.

CAUTION: When repairing the exhaust system or removing exhaust components, disconnect the heated oxygen sensors at the wiring harness to prevent damage to the sensors and harness.

2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Disconnect the downstream Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) electrical connector.

CAUTION: When repairing the exhaust system or removing exhaust components, disconnect the heated oxygen sensors at the wiring harness to prevent damage to the sensors and harness.





4. Disconnect the converter from the exhaust manifold.
- Remove the nuts.
- Discard the gasket.





5. Disconnect the converter from the muffler inlet pipe.
- Remove the nuts.
- Discard the gasket.





6. Remove the crossmember.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the crossmember.





7. Remove the three way catalyst.
1 Remove the bracket bolts.
2 Remove the three way catalyst.

INSTALLATION














1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE:
- Inspect the three way catalytic converter for cracked joints, broken welds and corrosive damage that could result in exhaust system leaks. If necessary, replace the three way catalytic converter.
- Use a new exhaust converter inlet gasket between the three way catalyst and exhaust manifold.
- Use a new exhaust converter outlet gasket between the three way catalyst and the muffler inlet pipe.
