Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

CAUTION: If removing more than one valve tappet, mark the components removed for proper location.

1. Remove the valve cover.
2. Remove the rocker arm.





3. Remove the valve tappet(s).
1 Remove the valve tappet guide plate retainer(s).
2 Remove the valve tappet guide plate(s)
3 Remove the valve tappet(s).

INSTALLATION





1. Follow the reverse the Removal Procedure in reverse order.

NOTE:
- Lubricate the valve tappet(s) with Super Premium 5W30 SAE Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G before installing.
- Always return the valve tappet to their original bores unless they are being replaced.
- The oil feed hole in the valve tappets must face away from the oil feed hole in the cylinder head.
- Be certain the valve tappet guide plate retainer tabs are toward the rear of the cylinder head, and the valve tappet guide plate tabs are toward the front of the cylinder head.
