Camshaft: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the engine air cleaner.
3. Remove the three bolts and the valve cover and gasket.
4. Remove the camshaft front seal.
5. Remove the ignition coil.
1 Disconnect the (A) radio interference capacitor and the (B) ignition coil electrical connectors.
2 Remove the bolts.
3 Place the ignition coil aside.
6. Remove the bolts and the ignition coil bracket.
7. Remove the eight valve tappets.
8. Remove the (A) two bolts and the (B) camshaft thrust plate.
9. Remove and discard the cup plug from the rear of the cylinder head.
10. Remove the camshaft from the rear of the cylinder head.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the camshaft through the rear of the cylinder head.
NOTE: Thoroughly coat the cylinder head cam bore with Super Premium 5W30 SAE Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G prior to camshaft installation.
2. Install the (1) camshaft thrust plate and the (2) bolts.
3. Install the cup plug.
4. Install the eight valve tappets.
5. Install the rocker arms.
6. Install the ignition coil bracket.
7. Install the ignition coil and the radio interference capacitor.
8. Connect the (A) radio interference capacitor and the (B) ignition coil electrical connectors.
9. Install the camshaft front seal.
10. Install the valve cover.
11. Install the engine air cleaner.
12. Install the battery ground cable.
