Piston Ring: Service and Repair

DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove pistons.
2. Remove two compression rings with a suitable piston ring expander. Remover two oil control rings and expander by hand.

NOTE: Any piston rings that are removed from pistons should be discarded and replaced with new rings.

3. Clean and inspect pistons. Replace pistons as required.

ASSEMBLY
1. Check the end gap of all piston rings. End gap must be within specifications.





2. Using a suitable piston ring expander, install two compression rings as shown. Position compression rings, oil control rings and expander gaps on pistons as shown.

NOTE: Orient the oil control expander with the cut ends pointed toward the piston dome.

3. Install pistons.
