Coolant Level Indicator Lamp: Description and Operation

Engine low coolant level warning system consists of:
- engine low coolant level indicator located in instrument cluster.
- low coolant level warning sensor (located on the bottom of radiator coolant recovery reservoir).
- Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

Low Coolant Level Warning Indicator
The engine low coolant level indicator:
- illuminates for two seconds during engine start or when ignition is turned to RUN to prove out the system.
- illuminates continuously and the GEM generates a single one second tone when the engine coolant level drops below a predetermined level for more than 15 seconds in the radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
- is turned off by filling the radiator coolant recovery reservoir above the predetermined level and cycling the ignition switch OFF and then ON.

Low Coolant Level Sensor
The low coolant level warning sensor:
- is mounted in the radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
- completes the circuit to ground which will illuminate the LOW COOLANT indicator in the instrument cluster when the coolant level falls below the predetermined level in the radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
