Removal and Installation


SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S) RECOMMENDED
Radio Removing Tool T87P-19061-A

REMOVAL
1. Position front wheels in the straight-ahead position.

NOTE: Removal and installation of the instrument panel is best accomplished by two people.

2. Disconnect battery ground cable.






3. Unsnap and remove instrument panel insulator from instrument panel reinforcement.
4. On floor shift models, remove console finish panel.






5. Remove two screws retaining instrument panel steering column cover to instrument panel. Remove instrument panel steering column cover by unsnapping from instrument panel.
6. Remove two screws retaining instrument panel brace below steering column. Disconnect courtesy lamp socket. Remove two screws retaining diagnostic link connector. Remove instrument panel brace.






7. On vehicles with manual A/C-heater, remove main wiring electrical connectors and vacuum hose harness from A/C evaporator housing and blower motor.






8. On vehicles equipped with Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC), remove the automatic temperature control sensor hose and elbow, two main wiring harness electrical connectors and vacuum hose harness from A/C evaporator housing.
9. Insert Radio Removing Tool T87P-19061-A into integrated control panel face plate. Push tools in approximately 38 mm (1.5 inches) to release retaining clips.

CAUTION: Do not use excessive force when installing radio removing tool, as this will damage retaining clips and make integrated control panel removal difficult.






10. Apply a light spreading force on tools and pull integrated control panel out of instrument panel.










11. Disconnect wiring connectors and automatic temperature control sensor hose and elbow, if equipped.






12. On floor shift vehicles, remove six screws and console center finish panel.






13. On column-shift models, remove four screws and instrument panel finish panel.
14. Remove steering column assembly, please refer to Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Column/Service and Repair/ Service and Repair

CAUTION: Do not remove the steering column, steering wheel and air bag module as an assembly from the vehicle unless the steering column is locked to prevent rotation or lower end of steering shaft is wired in such a way to prevent the steering wheel from being rotated.

15. Remove screws retaining cluster opening instrument panel finish panel to instrument panel. Carefully disengage end clips by pulling cluster opening instrument panel finish panel straight out of instrument panel.






16. Remove four screws retaining instrument cluster to instrument panel. Pull instrument cluster away far enough to disconnect three electrical connectors at rear. Remove instrument cluster from vehicle.






17. Unsnap instrument panel upper finish panel from instrument panel.






18. On autolamp-equipped vehicles, disconnect electrical connector from light sensor amplifier.
19. Unsnap and remove instrument panel finish end panel from LH and RH side of instrument panel.






20. Remove RH and LH front scuff plates and pull door weatherstrip away from instrument panel.
21. Remove three screws retaining instrument panel to upper cowl top panel.






22. Working with an assistant, remove two screws at each end of instrument panel.
23. Disconnect instrument panel-to-dash panel electrical connectors.






24. Remove parking brake cable and parking brake switch connector.
25. With an assistant, remove instrument panel from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. If instrument panel is being replaced, transfer all components, wiring and hardware to new instrument panel.






2. With an assistant, place instrument panel in vehicle. Connect instrument panel to dash panel electrical connectors. Tighten connector retaining screws to 4-6 Nm (36-53 Lb-In).
3. With an assistant, install instrument panel to cowl and install two screws at each end of instrument panel. Tighten screws to 19-25 Nm (15-18 Lb-Ft).






4. Install three screws retaining instrument panel to upper cowl top panel. Tighten screws to 7-9 Nm (62-79 Lb-In).
5. Install parking brake cable and connect brake switch connector.






6. Install instrument panel finish end panel to each end of instrument panel by snapping in place.
7. Install door weatherstrips and scuff plates.






8. On autolamp-equipped vehicles, connect electrical connector to light sensor amplifier.






9. Snap instrument panel upper finish panel into place in instrument panel.






10. Connect electrical connectors to rear of instrument cluster until they click into place. Install instrument cluster to instrument panel and install four screws. Tighten screws to 2-3 Nm (18-26 Lb-In).
11. Install end clips of instrument panel cluster opening instrument panel finish panel to instrument panel and press ends into place.
12. Install steering column assembly, please refer to Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Column/Service and Repair/ Service and Repair






13. On column shift models, install instrument panel finish panel with four retaining screws.






14. On floor shift models, install console center finish panel with six retaining screws.
15. Connect wiring connectors and automatic temperature control sensor hose and elbow, if equipped, to integrated control panel.
16. Slide integrated control panel into instrument panel making sure that rear support is engaged on upper support rail.














17. Push integrated control panel inward until retaining clips are fully engaged.






18. On vehicles equipped with EATC, install the automatic temperature control sensor hose and elbow, two main wiring electrical connectors and the vacuum hose harness to the A/C evaporator housing.






19. On vehicles equipped with manual A/C-heater, install main wiring electrical connectors and vacuum hose harness to the A/C evaporator housing and blower motor.
20. Reconnect any other electrical connectors or hoses disconnected for removal of instrument panel.






21. Install instrument panel brace below steering column. Tighten screws to 7-10 Nm (62-88 Lb-In). Install diagnostic link connector with two retaining screws and connect courtesy lamp socket. Install instrument panel steering column cover by snapping upper retainers into instrument panel. Install two screws and tighten to 7-10 Nm (62-88 Lb-In).
22. On floor shift models, install console finish panel.






23. Install instrument panel insulator to instrument panel reinforcement.
24. Connect battery ground cable.
25. Install/connect any other components removed/disconnected for removal of instrument panel.
26. Test all instrument panel gauges and controls for proper operation. Verify air bag warning indicator operation.
