Throttle Body: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Loosen engine air cleaner tube clamp. Disconnect crankcase ventilation tube, Intake Air Temperature sensor (IAT sensor) and aspirator hoses from air cleaner outlet tube. Remove air cleaner outlet tube.
3. Remove accelerator cable shield from throttle body.
4. Disconnect accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable from throttle body lever.
5. Remove two accelerator cable bracket retaining bolts from side of throttle body. Position accelerator cable bracket, accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable out of the way.
6. Disconnect wiring connection for the engine control sensor wiring to the Throttle Position sensor (TP sensor).
7. Remove retaining nuts for ignition wire separator to the throttle body retaining stud bolts and position the ignition wire separator and ignition wires out of the way.
8. Remove the throttle body retaining bolts and stud bolts (note location for installation).
9. Remove throttle body from intake manifold.
10. Discard Throttle Body gasket (TB gasket).
INSTALLATION
1. Clean and inspect sealing surfaces of upper intake manifold and throttle body.
CAUTION: Use care when cleaning gasket material because aluminum gouges easily which forms leak paths.
NOTE: Lightly oil all bolt and stud bolt threads prior to installation.
2. Place throttle body gasket on intake manifold.
3. Aligning bolt holes, install throttle body on upper intake manifold. Install stud bolts and retaining bolts. Tighten to 20-30 Nm (15-22 lb-ft).
4. Install ignition wires and ignition wire separators to throttle body mounting stud. Tighten retaining nuts to 5-7 Nm (45-61 lb-in).
5. Connect wiring connection for the engine control sensor wiring to the throttle position sensor.
6. Install accelerator cable bracket to side of throttle body. Tighten retaining bolts to 17 Nm (12 lb-ft).
7. Connect accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable to throttle body lever.
8. Install accelerator cable shield. Tighten bolts to 1.4 Nm(12 lb-in).
9. Connect air cleaner outlet tube to throttle body and engine Air Cleaner (ACL). Tighten engine air cleaner tube clamps to 1.4-2.5 Nm (13-22 lb-in). Connect crankcase ventilation tube, intake air temperature sensor and aspirator hose to their original locations.
10. Connect battery ground cable.
11. Start engine and check for vacuum leaks.
12. Check engine idle. Adjust as necessary.
NOTE: Engine idle adjustment must be performed if the throttle body is removed for any reason and if throttle plate idle adjustment screw position is changed.
