Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove drive belt.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Remove RH front wheel and tire assembly.





5. Remove four crankshaft pulley to damper retaining bolts and remove crankshaft pulley.
6. Remove crankshaft damper retaining bolt and washer.
7. Remove damper from crankshaft using Crankshaft Damper Remover 303-009 (T58P-6316-D) and Vibration Damper Remover Adapter 303-176 (T82L-6316-B).

CAUTION: Use care when removing damper so as not to damage crankshaft or create burrs.





8. Remove crankshaft front seal from engine front cover using Jet Plug Remover 310-005 (T77L-9533-B).

CAUTION: Use care to prevent damage to engine front cover, Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP sensor) and crankshaft.

INSTALLATION
1. Inspect engine front cover and crankshaft seal surface of the crankshaft damper for damage, nicks, burrs or other roughness which may cause the new crankshaft front seal to fail. Service or replace components as necessary.
2. Lubricate crankshaft front oil seal lip with clean engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G and install crankshaft front seal using Vibration Damper and Seal Replacer 303-175 (T82L-6316-A) and Front Cover Seal Replacer T70P-6B070-A.
3. Coat crankshaft damper sealing surface with clean engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G. Apply Silicone Gasket and Sealant F6AZ-19562-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A6, to keyway of damper prior to installation. Install damper using Vibration Damper and Seal Replacer 303-175 (T82L-6316-A).
4. Install damper retaining bolt and washer. Tighten to 125- 165 Nm (93-121 ft. lbs.).
5. Install crankshaft pulley and install four retaining bolts. Tighten retaining bolts to 40-55 Nm (30-40 ft. lbs.).
6. Install RH wheel and tire assembly.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Position drive belt over crankshaft pulley.
9. Install drive belt and check for proper routing and engagement in the pulleys.
10. Connect battery ground cable.
11. Start engine and check for oil leaks.
