Transmission Speed Sensor: Service and Repair


REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Place a drain pan beneath the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor.





3. Disconnect the TSS electrical connector





4. Remove the TSS.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Remove the TSS sensor





5. Inspect the TSS sensor bore.
- Inspect the O-ring for nicks or cuts; replace if necessary.


INSTALLATION





1. Install a new O-ring if necessary. Apply a light coat of petroleum jelly to the O-ring before installation.





2. Install the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor.
1 Position the TSS sensor.
2 Install the TSS sensor bolt.





3. Connect the TSS electrical connector
4. Remove the drain pan
5. Lower vehicle.





6. Check the transmission fluid level, add Motorcraft MERCON Multi-purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent meeting MERCON specification if necessary. MERCON(R) automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON(R) V as a service fluid, as per TSB 06-14-4.





7. Start the engine and move the transaxle range selector lever through all gear positions.
