Timing Cover: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the RH valve cover.
2. Remove the LH valve cover.
3. Remove the oil pan.
4. Remove the generator.
5. Remove the power steering pump.
6. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
1 Unclip the wiring harness retainer.
2 Disconnect the CMP electrical connector.
7. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor (CKP) electrical connector.
1 Unclip the wiring harness retainer.
2 Disconnect the CKP electrical connector.
8. Remove the following sensors.
1 Remove the bolt and CKP sensor.
2 Remove the bolt and the CMP sensor.
9. Remove the bolts and studs in the indicated sequence and remove the engine front cover.
- Discard the gaskets.
INSTALLATION
NOTE:
- Prior to applying sealer clean the front cover to cylinder block and cylinder head sealing surfaces with metal surface cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA.
- Install the engine front cover within four minutes after applying the sealant.
1. Apply a 6mm dot of sealant to the indicated locations.
- Use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F6AZ-19562-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A6.
NOTE:
- The engine front cover must be installed in a two step sequence.
- Locating dowels and the locations of the studs
2. Install the front engine cover.
- Install new gaskets in the engine front cover.
- Install the bolts and studs in the indicated sequence and tighten in two steps.
- First tighten the seven bolts and studs one quarter turn (90°) after engine front cover contacts cylinder block and cylinder heads.
3. Install the remaining engine front cover bolts and studs and tighten in the indicated sequence.
NOTE: Lubricate the new O-rings with light engine oil before installation.
4. Install the position sensors and bolts.
5. Install the power steering pump.
6. Install the generator.
7. Install the oil pan.
8. Install the RH valve cover.
9. Install the LH valve cover.
