Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
MERCON(R) automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON(R) V as a service fluid, as per TSB 06-14-4.Special Tools:
REMOVAL
1. Remove LH/RH halfshafts.
2. Remove the transaxle drain plug and drain fluid.
NOTE: Place suitable drain pan under vehicle.
3. Remove and discard the differential seal(s).
1 Install the Converter Seal Remover.
2 Install the Impact Slide Hammer.
3 Remove and discard the differential seal(s).
INSTALLATION
1. Using Output Seal Replacer install the differential seal.
2. Install LH/RH halfshafts.
3. Remove the drain pan and lower the vehicle.
4. Add as required use Motorcraft MERCON Multi-purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent meeting MERCON specification. MERCON(R) automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON(R) V as a service fluid, as per TSB 06-14-4.
5. Start the engine and move the transaxle range selector lever through all gear positions. Refill as required.
6. Allow the transmission fluid to reach operating temperature and fill if necessary.
7. Test drive the vehicle.
