Arming and Disarming
Deactivation ProcedureSpecial Tool(s) Required
WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT REPAIR IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND PERSONAL INJURY.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Wait one minute for the backup power supply in the air bag diagnostic monitor to deplete its stored energy.
3. Remove the driver side air bag module from the vehicle.
WARNING: PLACE THE AIR BAG MODULE ON A BENCH WITH THE TRIM COVER FACING UP TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
4. Connect Air Bag Simulator (driver side) to the vehicle harness at the top of the steering column.
5. Remove the passenger side air bag module.
Connect Air Bag Simulator (passenger side) to the vehicle harness connector in place of the passenger side air bag module.
6. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
Reactivation Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Wait one minute for the backup power supply in the air bag diagnostic monitor to deplete its stored energy.
3. Remove Air Bag Simulator (driver side) from the vehicle harness connector at the top of the steering column.
WARNING: THE AIR BAG SIMULATOR MUST BE REMOVED AND THE AIR BAG MODULE RECONNECTED WHEN THE SYSTEM IS REACTIVATED TO AVOID NON-DEPLOYMENT IN A COLLISION RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
4. Reconnect and install the driver side air bag module.
5. Remove Air Bag Simulator (passenger side) from the vehicle harness connector on the passenger side.
WARNING: THE AIR BAG SIMULATOR MUST BE REMOVED AND THE AIR BAG MODULE RECONNECTED WHEN THE SYSTEM IS REACTIVATED TO AVOID NON-DEPLOYMENT IN A COLLISION RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
6. Reconnect and install the passenger side air bag module.
7. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
8. Prove out the system.
