Central Timer Module (CTM)
Operation of the Central Timer Module (CTM)
The driver warning chime provides the driver with an audible warning for ignition on, seat belt not fastened, key in ignition, driver door open and lights on or driver door open. The system comprises, a safety belt buckle with integral switch, ignition switch and driver door courtesy light switch. The warning chime is integral to the central control module.
- Windshield wipers
- Heated rear window
- Entry illumination
- Lights-on warning chime unit
- Safety belt warning
Windshield Wipers
If the windshield wiper switch is put into the interval position when the ignition is switched on, the windshield wiper relay is actuated, to trigger the windshield wiper motor at set intervals. In the case of vehicles with the wiper delay switch, the wiper is actuated again after the set time. This sequence repeats itself until the wiper delay switch is switched out of the interval position or the windshield wiper switch is switched off. Switching the wiper process off and on again results in starting a new wiper process with the set interval. If the windscreen washer switch is pressed, continuous wiping takes place until the windscreen washer switch is released, followed by two further wipes. To fix the final position of the windshield wiper, the contact in the windshield wiper motor sends a signal to the CTM. The wiper delay switch is a potentiometer with the value 47 kOhm, the slider of which is connected to the CTM. The smallest interval between two wipes which can be set with this potentiometer is about 4 sec; the largest is about 21 sec.
Heated Rear Window
If the heated rear window switch is actuated when the ignition is switched on, the heated rear window relay is actuated. The heated rear window is then switched on, and automatically switched off again after about 10 min.
Entry Illumination
When the ignition is on the entry illumination is switched on or off immediately. The entry illumination relay is switched on if one or more of the following conditions are fulfilled: driver's door open, passenger's door open, infra-red signal "unlock" sent via remote control, or one of the two door-handle switches is actuated.
When the ignition is off the entry illumination is activated immediately when the following conditions occur: driver's door open, passenger's door open or the infra-red "unlock" signal is sent by remote control.
The entry illumination is automatically switched off again after about 12 seconds, if the following conditions are fulfilled: driver's door closed, passenger's door closed and infra-red signal "unlock" no longer sent, even if one of the door-handle switches is still being held. If the ignition is switched on during these 12 seconds, the entry illumination goes out immediately when the conditions above are fulfilled.
Lights-on Warning Chime Unit
When the ignition is switched off, and the dipped or main beam is switched on, and the driver's door is opened, the warning chime which is integrated in the CTM sounds. The warning chime goes off if the headlights on full or dipped beam are switched off or the driver's door is closed.
Seat Belt Warning
If the ignition is switched on, and the seat belt is not in the buckle, the warning chime sounds for 4 to 8 seconds and the seat belt warning lamp in the instrument cluster lights. If the seat belt is put into the seat belt buckle within about 85 seconds, the warning lamp goes out. If this occurs while the warning chime is still on, this also goes off. If the seat belt buckle is not actuated during these 85 seconds, the warning lamp remains on during these 85 seconds.
Transmission Selector Lever not in the Park Position
If the ignition is switched off or the ignition key is still in the lock, and the transmission selector lever is not in the park position, and the driver's door is open, the warning chime sounds. The CTM receives the signal that the transmission selector lever is not in the park position from the instrument cluster module.
