Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the heat shield.
1 Remove the upper bolts.
- Remove the coolant hose bracket and the engine lifting eye, and pull out the engine oil dipstick tube.
2 Remove the bracket for the coolant hose.
3 Remove the lower bolts.
CAUTION: When repairing the exhaust system or removing exhaust components, disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (H02S) at the wiring harness to prevent damage to the sensors and the harness.
2. Disconnect the H02S wiring connector.
3. Remove the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Loosen the catalytic converter bracket bolt and drop the converter down so the studs clear the exhaust manifold.
6. Lower the vehicle.
CAUTION: Do not work on the aluminum engine components until the engine is cold.
7. Remove the exhaust manifold.
- Remove the nuts.
- Remove the exhaust manifold.
- Discard the exhaust manifold gasket.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Do not use abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material; use only plastic manual scrapers. Do not scratch or gouge aluminum sealing surfaces.
1. Install the exhaust manifold and tighten the nuts.
2. Install the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Tighten the catalytic converter bracket bolt.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Install the heat shield.
- Insert the oil dipstick tube into the cylinder block and position the coolant hose bracket and the engine lifting eye in installation position.
1 Screw in the upper bolts.
2 Install the lower bolts.
3 Install the bracket to the coolant hose.
