Oil Pan: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the heat shield.
1 Remove the upper bolts.
2 Remove the coolant hose bracket and the engine lifting eye, and pull out the engine oil dipstick tube.
3 Remove the bracket for the coolant hose.
4 Remove the lower bolts.
2. Disconnect the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Remove the catalytic converter.
1 Unscrew the bolt and undo the retaining clip for the catalytic converter.
2 Disconnect the catalytic converter from the exhaust system.
3 Unhook the catalytic converter from the rubber mountings.
4 Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (H02S) connector.
NOTE: Loosening sequence
5. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil pan.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Do not use abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material; use only manual scrapers. Do not scratch or gouge aluminum sealing surfaces.
1. Clean and inspect the mounting faces of both the oil pan and the cylinder block. To remove all traces of previous sealer, use solvent to clean the cylinder block and oil pump. Both surfaces must be flat, clean, and dry.
NOTE: Fit the oil pan within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
2. Apply a 3 mm bead of Silicone Gasket and Sealant F1AZ-19562-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G320-A2 to the mating face of the oil pan.
NOTE: Tightening sequence.
3. Fit the oil pan and screw in the drain plug with a new oil seal.
4. Install the catalytic converter.
1 Attach the catalytic converter to the bracket.
2 Connect the H02S connector.
3 Hook the catalytic converter into the rubber mounting.
4 Connect the catalytic converter to the exhaust.
- Guide the catalytic converter onto the exhaust manifold studs and into the exhaust
NOTE: The catalytic converter must be up against the exhaust manifold.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Attach the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.
7. Install the heat shield.
1 Screw in the upper bolts.
2 Install the lower bolts.
3 Install the bracket to the coolant hose.
- Insert the oil dipstick tube into the cylinder block and position the coolant hose bracket and the engine lifting eye in installation position.
8. Fill up with engine oil.
