Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Release the parking brake.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Disconnect the parking brake cable.
4. Remove the center floor console.





5. Remove the parking brake control.
- Remove the two bolts.





6. Pull the parking brake cable through the opening in the floor.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: New parking brake control assemblies are supplied with the self-adjust mechanism pre-set.





1. To set the preload of the parking brake control self-adjust mechanism, lift the parking brake control lever to the fully raised position.





2. Locate the cable and equalizer between your feet.





3. Extract 40 mm of parking brake cable.
1 Press down the pawl.
2 Simultaneously pull the parking brake to extract 40 mm of cable.





4. Release the tension on the parking brake cable.
1 Press down the pawl.
2 Simultaneously release the tension on the cable.
- The cable self-adjust mechanism will hold the cable until load is applied to the cable.





5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
