Disassembly

1. Inspect the differential for:
- Damaged or worn gears.
- Cracked or damaged gear case.





2. Check the side gear and pinion backlash.
(1) Install the LH driveshaft and joint and RH driveshaft and joint.
(2) Support the driveshafts on V-blocks.
(3) Use the Dial Indicator With Bracketry TOOL-4201-C to measure the backlash of both differential pinion gears. If the backlash is not within specifications, replace the differential as an assembly.





3. Remove the differential pinion shaft lock pin.





4. Remove the differential pinion shaft.





5. Remove the differential pinion gears and differential pinion thrust washers.





6. Remove the differential side gears and differential side gear thrust washers.





7. Use (A) Push-Puller Set D80L-927-A, (B) Step Plate Adapter Set D80L-630-A, (C) Bearing-Puller Attachment D84L-1123-A and (D) Push-Puller Legs D80L-927-A2 to remove the (E) bearing (speedometer drive gear side).
8. Remove the speedometer drive gear.





9. Use (A) Puller-Differential Side Bearing T77F-4220-B1 and (B) Step Plate D80L-630-A to remove the (C) bearing.
