Assembly

1. Clean all components with a suitable solvent and use compressed air to dry all parts and clean the fluid passages. Perform the following before assembly:
- Inspect the inner and outer races for scoring, grooves, or wear.
- Inspect thrust bearings for damage or wear.
- Look for scoring, grooves, or pitting on the ends of the sprays. Ensure the spray cage is not bent and the spray slots are not oblonged.
- Inspect the primary sun gear and rear sun gear and drum for damage or wear.





2. Measure the primary sun gear inner diameter.
- The sun gear inner diameter should be 21.021mm (0.828 inch). If not within the specification, replace the primary sun gear.





3. Measure the rear sun gear and drum inner diameter.
- The rear sun gear and drum inner diameter should be 30.425mm (1.198 inch). If not within the specification, replace the rear sun and drum gear.





4. Install the primary sun gear into the rear sun gear and drum.





5. Install a new primary sun gear snap ring.





6. Apply petroleum jelly to the planet gear thrust bearing and install the planet gear thrust bearing into the rear sun gear and drum.
- The planet gear thrust bearing outer diameter is 86.1mm (3.390 inch).





7. Verify that the spring cage of the one-way clutch faces toward the outer race as shown.





8. Insert the (A) one-way clutch into the (C) one-way clutch outer race. Apply petroleum jelly to the (B) one-way overrunning clutch bearing and secure it to the one-way clutch outer race.
- One-way overrunning clutch bearing outer diameter is 58.0 mm (2.283 inch).





9. Install the one-way clutch inner race into the one-way clutch outer race by turning the inner race counterclockwise. Hold the one-way clutch outer race and verify that the inner race turns only counterclockwise.





10. Install the forward clutch cylinder and one-way clutch outer race assembly into the rear sun gear and drum.

NOTE: Align the splines of the one-way clutch outer race and primary sun gear.





11. Install a new primary sun gear snap ring.





12. Verify that when the primary sun gear is held, the one-way clutch outer race turns smoothly and only clockwise.





13. Apply petroleum jelly to the planet gear thrust bearing race and secure it to the rear sun gear and drum.





14. Apply petroleum jelly to the planet gear thrust bearing and secure it to the rear sun gear and drum.
- Planet gear thrust bearing outer diameter is 86.1mm (3.39 inch).
