Shifter A/T: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the shift console.
2. Remove the gearshift lever knob.
(1) Remove the RH gearshift lever knob screw.
(2) Remove the front gearshift lever knob screw.
3. Remove the transmission control selector dial bezel.
(1) Remove the four screws.
(2) Disconnect the miniature bulb.
4. Disconnect the (A) shift lock actuator electrical connector and the (B) transmission control selector dial bezel electrical connector.
5. Disconnect the park range switch electrical connector.
6. Remove the two screws and the shift lock actuator.
7. Remove the gearshift lever cable nut.
8. Remove the two cable floorpan bracket bolts.
CAUTION: Be careful not to kink the shift cable and bracket when repositioning it aside.
9. Loosen the (B) ignition/shifter interlock cable locknut.
CAUTION:
- Do not loosen the (A) ignition/shifter interlock cable locknut from the factory setting for proper shift-lock operation.
- Be careful not to kink the ignition/shifter interlock cable when repositioning it aside.
10. Remove the four gearshift lever nuts.
INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure noting the following:
- Use Threadlock and Sealer EOAZ-19554-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G3 l5-A5 and ESE-M4G24-A2 when installing the gearshift lever knob screws.
- Adjust the shift cable and bracket as necessary.
- Adjust the transmission control selector dial bezel and then tighten the screws in sequence.
