Removal






1. Remove the battery tray.





2. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.





3. Remove the engine air cleaner (ACL).





4. Remove the Computer Control Relay Module (CCRM).
(1) Disconnect the CCRM electrical connector.
(2) Remove the CCRM bracket bolt and the CCRM bracket nut.
(3) Remove the CCRM and bracket as an assembly.





5. Remove the shift cable and bracket and position it aside.
(1) Remove the shift cable and bracket nut from the manual control shift outer lever.
(2) Remove the shift cable and bracket clip.





6. Disconnect:
the (A) Transmission Range (TR) switch electrical connector
the (B) transaxle solenoid electrical connector
the (C) Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector.





7. Disconnect the H02S electrical connector.





8. Disconnect the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) electrical connector.





9. Remove the starter motor.





10. Remove:
the (A) throttle valve control actuating cable bolts
disconnect the (B) throttle valve control actuating cable from the throttle cam.





11. Install the Three-Bar Engine Support DS8L-6000-A or equivalent.





12. Disconnect the fluid cooler lines from the transaxle.

NOTE: Place a drain pan under the transaxle before disconnecting the fluid cooler lines.





13. Remove the LH engine support insulator nuts and washers.








14. Remove the two upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.
15. Raise and support the vehicle.





16. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.





17. Remove the LH splash shields.
(1) Remove six splash shield bolts and clip.
(2) Remove both splash shields as an assembly.





18. Remove the case plug and drain the transaxle fluid.





19. Remove the front wheel driveshaft and joints.





20. Install two Transaxle Plugs T88C-7025-RH into the transaxle to hold the differential side gears.

CAUTION: Failure to install the transaxle plugs may cause the differential side gears to become improperly positioned.





21. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (H02S) wire clip.





22. Remove the (A) front engine crossmember bolts and the (B) front engine crossmember.





23. Remove the front engine crossmember.

NOTE: Disconnect the A/C line from the retainer located on the front of the front engine crossmember.

(1) Remove the engine support crossmember bolts and nuts.
(2) Remove the LH engine mount nuts.
(3) Remove the transaxle mount nuts.





24. Remove the (A) transaxle housing cover bolts and the (B) transaxle housing cover.





25. Remove the four flywheel to converter retaining nuts.





26. Remove the lower transaxle-to-engine bolts.





27. Remove the upper front transaxle to engine bolt.

NOTE: The upper front transaxle to engine bolt is equipped with a retainer and will remain in the engine block.





28. Position Hi-Lift Jack 014-00210 or equivalent under the transaxle. Secure the transaxle to the transaxle jack.








29. Remove the middle transaxle-to-engine bolts.
30. Carefully lower the transaxle out of the vehicle.
