Installation
1. Secure the transaxle on the Hi-Lift Jack 014-00210. Raise the transaxle to the proper height and position the transaxle to the engine.
NOTE:
- Prior to installation of the transaxle assembly, the torque converter pilot hub must be properly lubricated. Use Ford Multi-Purpose Grease DOAZ-19584-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C45-A.
- Align the torque converter studs to the flywheel.
2. Install the middle transaxle to engine bolts.
3. Install the upper front transaxle to engine bolt.
4. Install the lower transaxle to engine bolts.
5. Install the four flywheel to converter retaining nuts.
6. Install the (A) transaxle housing cover bolts and the (B) transaxle housing cover.
7. Install the engine support crossmember.
NOTE:
- Connect the A/C line to the retainer located on the front of the engine support crossmember.
- To ease installation, loosen the front transaxle support insulator through bolt and transaxle insulator bolt.
(1) Install the engine support crossmember bolts and nuts.
(2) Install the LH engine mount nuts.
(3) Install the transaxle mount nuts.
(4) Tighten to specifications.
8. Install the (A) front engine crossmember bolts and the (B) front engine crossmember.
9. Connect the heated oxygen sensor (H02S) to the wire clip.
10. Remove the Transaxle Plugs T88C-7025-RH from the transaxle.
11. Install the front wheel driveshaft and joints.
12. Install the LH splash shields.
(1) Install the six splash shield bolts and clip.
(2) Install both splash shields as an assembly.
13. Install the tire and wheel assemblies.
14. Install the starter motor.
15. Lower the vehicle.
16. Install the two upper transaxle-to-engine bolts.
17. Install the LH engine support insulator nuts and washers.
18. Connect the fluid cooler lines to the transaxle.
19. Remove the Three-Bar Engine Support D88L-6000-A.
20. Connect the (B) throttle valve control actuating cable to the throttle cam and install the (A) throttle valve control actuating cable bolts. Adjust the cable.
21. Connect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
22. Connect the H02S electrical connector.
23. Connect the (A) transmission range selector electrical connector, the (B) transaxle solenoid electrical connector, and the (C) turbine signal sensor electrical connector.
24. Install the shift cable and bracket.
(1) Install the shift cable and bracket nut to the manual control shift lever.
(2) Install the shift cable and bracket clip. Adjust the cable.
25. Install the computer control relay module (CCRM).
(1) Install the CCRM and bracket as an assembly.
(2) Install the CCRM bracket bolt and the CCRM bracket nut.
(3) Connect the CCRM electrical connector.
26. Install the engine air cleaner.
27. Install the air cleaner inlet tube.
28. Install the battery tray.
29. Add the specified amount of ATF to the proper level and check for leaks. With the engine at operating temperature, recheck the level and for leaks.
30. Road test the vehicle and check the shift points and shift quality.
