Assembly
NOTE: Clean the oil pump with a suitable solvent and blow dry with compressed air to dry all parts and clean fluid passages. Inspect all mating surfaces for burrs and scores. Check all the fluid passages for obstructions. To determine if a component is within specification, take several measurements and calculate the average value.1. Measure the spool valve and check for wear. Verify the spool valve moves smoothly in the pump housing bore. If not as specified, replace the pump assembly.
- The spool valve standard outer diameter should be 14.00 mm (0.551 inch)
- The minimum outer diameter is 13.98 mm (0.550 inch).
2. Install the spool valve.
3. Measure the free length Of the spool valve spring. If not as specified, replace the spring.
NOTE: Do not compress the spring when measuring with vernier calipers.
Outer Diameter (A): 11.8 mm (0.465 inch)
Free Length (B): 53.0 mm (2.087 inch)
Wire Diameter (C): 1.2 mm (0.47 inch)
No. of Coils: 12.0
4. Install the spool valve spring.
5. Install a new spool valve washer.
6. Install the spool valve plug.
7. Measure the clearance between the end of the pump housing and the outer rotor and the inner rotor. If not as specified, replace the pump assembly.
- The standard clearance should be 0.02-0.04 mm (0.00079-0.00157 inch).
- The minimum clearance is 0.05 mm (0.00197 inch).
8. Measure the clearance between the oil pump boss and the inner rotor. If not as specified, replace the front pump support and gear assembly.
- The standard oil clearance should be 0.040-0.115mm (0.00157-0.00453 inch).
- The maximum clearance is 0.125mm (0.00492 inch).
9. Align the marks and install the flange and the inner and outer rotors.
(1) Install the outer rotor.
(2) Install the inner rotor.
(3) Install the flange.
(4) Alignment mark.
10. Install the pump cover and tighten the pump cover bolts in the sequence shown. Prime pump by filling pump gear cavity with Mercon ATF.
11. Use the oil pump shaft to verify smooth front pump support and gear operation.
12. Apply ATF to the new seal rings and carefully install them on the pump cover.
13. Apply petroleum jelly to the thrust washer and install it on the pump cover.
