Leaks

NOTE: If the air is not purged from the power steering correctly, a second customer concern or pump failure could result.

DESCRIPTION
A whining noise heard from the power steering pump may be caused by air in the system. The following service procedure must be performed whenever any of the following services are performed:
^ All power steering noise complaints with evidence of aerated fluid, prior to any component service.
^ Replacement of any power steering system component.

PROCEDURE
1. Raise vehicle until tires are clear of the floor.

2. Check the power steering fluid level. Add fluid to the power steering reservoir if the level is below the full (F) mark.

3. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector.

4. Crank engine for 30 seconds while cycling steering wheel fully to the left and right.

NOTE: Do not hold steering wheel on stops.

5. Check the fluid level in the power steering pump reservoir. Add Mercon(R) ATF (power steering fluid) if the power steering level is below the full (F) mark.
