Open Circuit Test
An open circuit starter motor armature may sometimes be detected by examining the commutator for evidence of burning.

Grounded Circuit Test







1. This test will determine if any armature winding insulation has been damaged. Measure for resistance using 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 between the commutator and the core. Infinite resistance indicates a normal condition; otherwise, replace the starter motor armature.







2. Check for continuity between the commutator and the shaft. Replace the starter motor armature if continuity is found.
