Impact Sensor: Service and Repair
WARNING: Vehicle air bag sensor orientation is critical for proper system operation. If a vehicle equipped with an air bag system has been involved in a crash where the front fenders or radiator grille area have been damaged, inspect the air bag sensor mounting brackets for deformation. If damaged, the air bag sensor should be replaced whether or not the air bag is deployed. in addition, ensure that the body structure in the area of the air bag sensor mounting is restored to its original condition.REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
WARNING: The backup power supply energy must be depleted before any air bag component service is performed. To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute.
2. Remove the headlamp housing.
3. Disconnect the radiator primary front air bag sensor and bracket electrical connector.
NOTE: Note the routing of radiator primary front air bag sensor and bracket wiring to ease installation.
4. Remove the two radiator primary front air bag sensor and bracket mounting bracket nuts.
5. Remove the two radiator primary front air bag sensor and bracket mounting bracket bolts and remove the bracket.
6. Remove the two radiator primary front air bag sensor and bracket mounting bracket bolts and remove the sensor.
INSTALLATION
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE: Verify that the air bag indicator is operative.
