This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to remove reference to 1998 model year vehicles.

ISSUE

The Integrated Air Bag Monitor (IABM2) may exhibit water ingestion from the A/C plenum and the air bag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may flash.

ACTION

Replace the module with a Service Kit replacement that includes a watershield. Refer to the Instruction Sheet included in the kit for installation details.

Perform normal Service diagnostics in Section 501-20B of the Escort/Tracer Workshop Manual to verify the need to replace the module. Follow the Instruction Sheet to properly install the watershield supplied with the Service Kit. Use the removal and installation instructions in the Workshop Manual.
