Test Notes

Normal Operation
The air bag diagnostic monitor measures the resistance between pins 16 and 3. If the diagnostic monitor measures a difference of more than 2.0 ohms between pins 16 and 3, it will flash Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 21 on the air bag warning indicator.

It is important to note that circuit 609 (R) is grounded to the side of the LH kick panel safing rear air bag sensor case and the case is grounded to the vehicle through the bracket. A good ground connection, at both the case and the vehicle body, is important for proper circuit operation.

Possible Causes
High resistance at pin 16 (circuit 609 [R]) to ground can be caused by:
- A poor connection due to loose mounting, dirt, or corrosion at the safing rear air bag sensor and bracket mounting surface.
- An open or damaged wire in circuit 609 (R). An open circuit inside the safing rear air bag sensor.
