Diagnostic Instructions
When a vehicle comes in for an air bag system concern, you should start with an inspection and verification to verify the customer's concerns and identify any obvious causes. After the inspection, the air bag warning indicator should be observed to identify any possible system faults. When the ignition key is turned from LOCK to ON, the air bag warning indicator should illuminate for approximately six seconds during normal instrument cluster prove out. Then, it can be observed to identify air bag system concerns. There are four possible results:
- No air bag warning indicator illumination (even during instrument cluster prove out).
- Continuous air bag warning indicator illumination.
- Rapid continuous flashing of the air bag warning indicator.
- The air bag warning indicator will flash Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
