Component Tests and General Diagnostics

DESCRIPTION
- Static testing procedures allow shop testing of the transaxle in the vehicle or on the bench. Completion of these tests prove out transaxle electronics.
- Refer to the appropriate pinpoint test for the DTCs retrieved.
- Use the 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent and the EEC-V 104-Pin Breakout Box 014-00950 or equivalent to perform the pinpoint tests as indicated by the retrieved DTCs.
- Repair as indicated by the pinpoint tests. Always retest the transaxle and road test the vehicle after performing repairs.

TESTER INSTALLATION
- Access the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and connect the breakout box.
- Connect the NGS tester or equivalent scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) and battery power.

SOLENOIDS - RESISTANCE/CONTINUITY TEST
1. Set the multimeter on Ohms range.
2. Connect the positive (red) lead of the multimeter to the corresponding breakout box pin of the appropriate solenoid.
3. Connect the negative (black) lead of the multimeter to breakout box pin 24,51,77, or 103 for chassis ground.
4. Perform the following resistance measurements:
Solenoid (Breakout Box Pin): Resistance
SS1 (27): 13-27 ohms
SS2 (01): 13-27 ohms
SS3 (53): 13-27 ohms
TCC (54): 13-27 ohms

If the resistance is not as specified, refer to Pinpoint Test A (SS1, SS2, or SS3) or Pinpoint Test C (TCC). Otherwise, perform the Solenoid Operation Test.

TRANSAXLE FLUID TEMPERATURE (TFT) SENSOR - RESISTANCE/CONTINUITY TEST
1. Set the multimeter on Ohms range.
2. Connect the positive (red) lead of the multimeter to breakout box pin 37.
3. Connect the negative (black) lead of the multimeter to breakout box pin 91 for chassis ground.
4. Resistance measurements will vary with ATF temperature.
ATF Temperature °C (°F): Resistance
20°C (68°F): 21.0-25.0 Kohms
40°C (104°F): 10.0-12.1 Kohms
60°C (140°F): 5.4-6.3 Kohms
80°C (176°F): 3.0-3.4 Kohms
100°C (212°F): 1.7-2.0 Kohms
120°C (248°F): 1.1-1.2 Kohms
140°C (266°F): 0.86-0.92 Kohms

5. If the resistance is not within specification, refer to Pinpoint Test B.
