Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

REMOVAL






1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When battery voltage is removed from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), all learned values will be cleared and reset to predetermined values. When battery voltage is restored to the PCM, the vehicle may exhibit certain driveability concerns. It will be necessary to drive the vehicle to allow the PCM to relearn values for optimum driveablity and performance.

2. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.






3. Remove the (A) manual lever control nut and the (B) manual control shift lever.






4. Disconnect the Transmission Range (TR) switch bolts and remove the TR switch.






5. Disconnect the TR switch electrical connector.






6. Remove the TR switch bolts and remove the TR switch.

INSTALLATION






1. Shift the transaxle in neutral then align the marks on the TR switch and the manual control lever while installing and tighten bolts to specifications. Adjust the switch as necessary.






2. Connect the TR switch electrical connector.






3. Position the manual control shift outer lever into place and tighten the manual lever control nut to specifications.






4. Install the shift cable and bracket and nut to specifications.
5. Install the air cleaner outlet tube.






6. Connect the battery ground cable.
